How I teach

Every lesson is just the two of us, for three hours: a little theory, then a lot of practice. We start with your camera until it stops being in the way, then we work on what matters most: learning to see, and finding the photographer you really are.

I taught myself photography in the street, and it is still a wonderful school. But the lessons go much further: directing a model, portrait, fashion, boudoir and lingerie, the artistic nude.

In 2019 and 2020 I also led courses and street workshops for the Leica Akademie Switzerland, in Geneva and Zurich. Two chapters of the book Inspiration Leica Akademie (Heidi and Robert Mertens, Rheinwerk, 2020) are devoted to my approach: The Sneaker Zoom, on working with a fixed 50 mm lens and moving with your feet, and Beyond Routines, on questioning your habits to find new subjects.

Beginner or experienced, with a mirrorless, a reflex or a Leica: the lessons adapt to your level, your pace and what you want to achieve.

The signature lesson

Your dream shoot, ready to shoot

Describe the image you have always wanted to make. I build the whole shoot around it: the idea, the place, the model, the light. When you arrive, everything is ready, and you only have to shoot.

I stay at your side to guide you on light, posing and framing, so that you learn while making pictures that look like you. It is the most direct way to find your own style and to grow your technique.

The foundations

5 sessions of 3 hours · one to one · your own camera · Geneva and around

Your camera. Menus, essential settings, focus modes, customising the controls.
Exposure. Aperture, shutter speed and ISO: understanding the trio and going manual.
Composition and natural light. The rules that work, when to break them, how to read light.
Reportage in the city. In the streets of Geneva: anticipation and the decisive moment.
Selection and editing. A Lightroom Classic workflow: import, sort, edit, export, back up.
